Love and betrayal are rendered with such intimacy that the boundary between singer and listener disappears. It is Romanticism at its most exquisite. Mendelssohn\, too\, was captivated by Heine’s genius and set several of his poems\, including “On Wings of Song.” His majestic Piano Trio in D minor expresses his belief in a harmonious\, enlightened world and the triumph of beauty.
