This is a space to meet and network with new collaborators\, converse about the music scene\, and play music together. Whether you’re a musician\, audio engineer\, venue owner\, songwriter\, or someone who just loves being around music\, you are invited. All are welcome. Free entry (RSVP required to reserve your spot).  \nTimeline \n7-8pm – Arrival\, networking\, drinks (cash bar)  \n8pm – Music industry panel discussion with special guest speakers\, followed by a jam session led by Jackson Whalan & friends   \nPromo Materials  \nYou are encouraged to bring business cards and other promo materials. There will be a table in the space where you can place them.  \nJam Session Details  \nThe house band will kick it off\, and we will open up the stage for sit-ins as the night goes on. If you are a musician looking to sit in\, speak to Jackson Whalan during the event. Gather near the stage if you are looking to play once the music gets going. There will be some gear backlined (drums\, bass\, keys\, vocal mics\, guitar amp\, instrument mics\, D.I.s). If you are sitting in\, the only rule is: listen. Be aware of the other people on the stage. This is not an open mic. The aim is to create amazing music in the moment\, together. Whether or not you get a chance to perform\, this will be an incredible night filled with connection and opportunity.  \nAmenities  \nA cash bar will be available at the Indigo Room. Diner will not be served on site\, but there are plenty of great food options in downtown Great Barrington.  \nAbout Your Host  \nJackson Whalan is a recording artist and music producer\, known for his fierce flow\, his uplifting and genre-bursting hip-hop\, his versatile beat-making skills and production\, and his dazzling freestyle rap chops. His 100-plus song catalog bursts through perceived confines of hip-hop\, veering into pop\, electronic\, and jam band territory. Whalan’s oeuvre includes LPs\, EPs\, singles\, and features. His career highlights include performing at The United Nations\, rapping with Quest Love on drums and Ray Angry on keys at Producer Mondays in New York City\, national tours with Moon Hooch\, collaborations with KRS-One\, Myka 9\, Wax\, and other Hip Hop legends\, and recent sync placements with the NFL\, Netflix\, Xfinity\, BET\, Vice\, Reebok\, and Meta.

DESCRIPTION:NOTE: due to inclement weather\, this event is now being held virtually on Zoom\nJOIN\n\nFREE\nVirtual via Zoom\n \nThe Du Bois Legacy Festival honors W.E.B. Du Bois Day\, Monday\, February 23\, and will observe the day with an abbreviated Festival program via Zoom. The Du Bois Legacy Festival organizers will be reading excerpts of Dr. Du Bois’ 1926 essay Criteria for Black Art\, with an African dance and drumming presentation led by Sister Noel Staples-Freeman & Uprising Dance Theater artists Jamemurrell Stanley and Brandon Guillermo and possible selections from vocalists Wanda Houston\, a recent recipient of the Du Bois Award from the Berkshire County NAACP\, and Dr. MaryNell Morgan-Brown\, PhD. with a musical interpretation/selection of the “Sorrow Songs” of Dr. Du Bois’ Souls of Black Folk. Rev. Dr. Cheryl Townsend Gilkes will close us out with her keynote address. Dr. Townsend Gilkes is the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Professor of Sociology and African American Studies Emerita at Colby College\, and a Hutchins Fellow at the W.E.B. Du Bois Research Institute at Harvard University. Her scholarly interests include African American women\, religion\, social change\, and the legacy of W. E. B. Du Bois in the fields of sociology\, African American studies\, and religious studies. Her research\, teaching\, and writing have specifically focused on the role of African American women in generating social change. After the keynote\, there will be a moderated question-and-answer session with Legacy Committee member Dr. Alexandria Russell.
