SUMMARY:Marc Broussard
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$34 – $54\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event  \n$34 Limited Upper Balcony\n$44 Reserved\n$54 Premium  \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm)  \nAcclaimed singer\, songwriter\, and musician Marc Broussard is an artist with a unique gift of channeling the spirits of classic R&B\, rock\, and soul into contemporary terms. The son of Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard of “The Boogie Kings\,” he nurtured his musical gifts at an early age in the vibrant Lafayette\, Louisiana music scene. After releasing a highly successful independent EP at age 20\, Broussard made his major-label debut with Carencro. The album featured the breakout hit single “Home” and catapulted him into the national spotlight. The Louisiana-born and raised artist has created a wide range of music in his career. Carencro laid the groundwork with unequaled style\, illustrating his knack for modern soul music and setting the stage for his long and distinguished career. That album and the others that followed solidified Broussard as a southern soul singer with a rarefied talent and an innate stylistic and emotional authenticity that have made him one of the most indelible artists of his generation. NPR cited\, “His music radiates soulful Louisiana blues\, but his songs blend those influences with raucous rock ‘n’ roll to create unique and infectious music.”   \nOver the past decade\, Broussard released several notable albums with major labels and has since returned to his independent roots with a series of critically acclaimed original and philanthropic cover albums through his S.O.S Foundation (Save our Soul). Marc has accumulated millions of streams and hundreds of millions of views on viral YouTube videos.   \nBroussard’s incomparable brand of soul\, an infectious mix of rock\, blues\, R&B\, funk-pop\, and soul coupled with his powerful vocals\, has garnered worldwide praise from critics and fans alike. His recent release\, S.O.S. 4 Blues for Your Soul\, a collaboration with blues legend Joe Bonamassa is a stellar collection of blues and soul classics that debuted at Number One on the Billboard Blues Album Chart. The fourth volume in his S.O.S. series\, the album benefits Bonamassa’s charitable foundation.   \nMarc Broussard’s new studio album\, Time is a Thief finds the acclaimed singer/songwriter delivering an infectious ten-song set filled with gritty\, rootsy hooks and dance-floor grooves\, all wrapped around Broussard’s fervent vocals. Produced by Grammy-winning guitarist/songwriter/producer Eric Krasno and Grammy-nominated producer/guitarist Jeremy Most\, Time Is a Thief has a funky\, soulful sound and is wonderfully layered with diverse sonic textures that distinguish it from his previous recordings. His first album of new music since 2017’s\, Easy to Love\, Time is a Thief arrives via his Artist Tone Label.

SUMMARY:Pure Prairie League
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \n\n$39 – $59\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event \n$39 Reserved\n$44 Preferred\n$59 Premium \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm)  \nFrom their beginnings in mid-Sixties Ohio as a group of friends playing cover tunes to the present-day unit featuring the propulsive team of drummer Scott Thompson and bassist Jared Camic\, Keyboard Master Randy Harper\, Guitar Ace/vocalist Jeff Zona and Pedal Steel/Saxophonist John Heinrich\, Pure Prairie League continues to embellish the rich 50-plus year history of one of Country-Rock’s pioneering forces. As one reviewer recently wrote: “PPL’s sound combines sweet memories with edgy\, contemporary muscle. Their vocals are as strong as Kentucky moonshine and the musicianship and performance skills are as sharp as a straight razor”. \nTheir eponymous first album – featuring the Norman Rockwell/Saturday Evening Post cover that introduced fans to PPL’s trademark cowpoke “Sad Luke” – has been hailed as a “major early influence in the emerging popularity of Country-Rock music”. Their second effort\, the multi-platinum “Bustin’ Out” brought us the Craig Fuller-penned classic “Amie”\, along with other gems of the genre. With “Two Lane Highway”\, nine more albums and countless shows\, a legacy has been forged and enriched\, highlighting contributions from several noteworthy members\, including original co-founder George Ed Powell\, Cincinnati’s legendary Goshorn Brothers\, Country Hall of Famers Gary Burr and Vince Gill\, award-winning writer Jeff Wilson (3 Top-20 singles)\, top Nashville session vocalist Curtis Wright and a host of other guest appearances from Chet Atkins\, Johnny Gimble\, EmmyLou Harris\, David Sanborn\, Eagle Don Felder\, Nicolette Larson\, Rosemary Butler\, Jenifer Wrinkle\, Jeff (Birdman) Kirk\, Mat Britain and many more. \nNow in their sixth decade\, Pure Prairie League continues to lead the way for the new generation of Country/Rockers such as Keith Urban\, Nickel Creek\, Wilco\, Counting Crows and so many others that cite PPL as a major influence. \nNow\, with the release of their new album “Back On Track” PPL brings it all back home with a dozen new songs that complete the circle begun in 1970 and continues to this day.

In between 100-plus concerts a year for five decades running – amassing millions of fans in the process – Los Lobos have released 17 studio albums\, seven live records\, three compilations\, two EPs\, and two feature videos. Through this output\, the band has garnered four Grammys\, an Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction\, the ALMA Ritchie Valens Pioneer Award\, NEA and Hispanic Heritage Foundation Honors\, Congressional recognitions\, and numerous "Keys to the City" and "Los Lobos Day" celebrations. Beyond the accolades\, and the source of it all\, is heart. Los Lobos have dedicated their off-stage time to helping others\, working for peace and justice. Their compositions have transformed the hard cries from the East L.A. barrio into songs of hope\, tales of common folk finding ways to endure. They were weaned on late-night radio's soul\, R&B\, and doo-wop\, and cured through the African-American currents of the blues\, jazz\, and rock 'n' roll. As proud Chicanos\, their songs have always glistened with the distillation from their Mexican and Latin American roots—nourished by Norteña and rancheras\, buoyed by bolero and cumbias\, soaring on the rhythms of son huasteco and son jarocho. Los Lobos have helped spread the rich diversity of cultures across every continent\, throughout the global community. Kids in Antwerp now know about Aztlán. Residents of Luxor and Ghana are crooning Lalo Guerrero. People from Laos and Bulgaria are belting "La Bamba"—all thanks to Los Lobos as cultural ambassadors. Los Lobos are David Hidalgo\, Louie Pérez\, Jr.\, Cesar Rosas\, Conrad Lozano\, Steve Berlin.  \nSponsored by

A protege of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark\, he quickly became a master storyteller in his own right\, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash\, Waylon Jennings\, Joan Baez\, Emmylou Harris\, The Pretenders\, and countless others. 1986 saw the release of his record\, Guitar Town\, which shot to number one on the country charts and is now regarded as a classic of the Americana genre. Most recently\, Earle’s 1988 hit Copperhead Road was made an official state song of Tennessee in 2023.  \nSubsequent releases like The Revolution Starts…Now (2004)\, Washington Square Serenade (2007)\, and TOWNES (2009) received consecutive Grammy Awards. Jerry Jeff\, released in 2022\, consisted of Earle’s versions of songs written by Jerry Jeff Walker\, one of his mentors.  \nEarle has published both a novel I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 2011) and Dog House Roses\, a collection of short stories (Houghton Mifflin 2003). Earle produced albums for other artists such as Joan Baez (Day After Tomorrow) and Lucinda Williams (Car Wheels on A Gravel Road). \nAs an actor\, Earle has appeared in several films and had recurring roles in the HBO series The Wire and Tremé. In 2009\, Earle appeared in the off-Broadway play Samara\, for which he also wrote a score that The New York Times described as “exquisitely subliminal.” Earle wrote music for and appeared in Coal Country\, for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. Earle is the host of the weekly show Hard Core Troubadour on Sirius Radio’s Outlaw Country channel.  \nIn 2020\, Earle was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. And in 2023\, Steve was honored by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music. Steve’s latest album\, Alone Again (Live)\, released on July 12th\, 2024. \n\n  \nSponsored by

SUMMARY:Close Encounters With Music: L’Amour Toujours – CEWM Commissioning Program World Premiere
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$30 – $55\n \n$30 Upper Balcony \n$55 Orchestra and Mezzanine \nIt’s all about love: A new work for clarinet trio by composer Seth Grosshandler that celebrates young love\, courtship and the serendipity of meeting one’s intended receives its inaugural performance. Signature love arias from favorite operas and Broadway sung by Metropolitan Opera soprano Danielle Talamantes and Kerry Wilkerson. Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock (“My sweetheart dwells so far from me\, I long hotly to be with her over there”) is a tour de force meshing clarinet and soprano. Resolved to retire\, in 1891 Brahms encountered the clarinet playing of Richard Mühlfeld and was inspired by a fresh muse to compose once again. A scholar and close friend of Brahms praised the Clarinet Trio\, writing that “It is as though the instruments were in love with each other.” An all-star ensemble that shares the stage with artistic director Yehuda Hanani includes clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein (“…treats his instrument as his personal voice\, dazzling in its spectrum of colors\, agility\, and range”—Washington Post) returning to CEWM after several seasons. So concludes Season 33 of Close Encounters—bookended by the immortal Brahms\, by inspiration and friendship.    \nMax Levinson\, piano; Alexander Fiterstein\, clarinet; Danielle Talamantes\,soprano; Kerry Wilkerson\, baritone; Yehuda Hanani\, cello

SUMMARY:Close Encounters With Music: A Tale of Two Salons – Winnaretta Singer and Marcel Proust
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$30 – $55\n \n$30 Upper Balcony \n$55 Orchestra and Mezzanine \nThe daughter of sewing machine industrialist Isaac Merritt Singer\, Winnaretta Singer-Polignac was a force of nature\, hosting everyone from Leon Bakst to Jean Cocteau and Jean Giraudoux to Prokofiev\, Madame Jean Lanvin\, Siegfried Wagner\, Arthur Rubinstein\, Arnold Schoenberg\, and Edith Wharton in her Paris salon. More importantly\, she was responsible for developing a new genre: “Great music for a small space by up-and-coming composers” in the words of Sylvia Kahane\, her biographer\, who will join for the four-hand piano “Bagatelle” by Winnaretta’s husband\, Edmond de Polignac. Works either commissioned by her\, dedicated to her\, or that were performed in her mansion on Rue Henri-Martin\, will be featured in our on-stage “salon”: Ravel’s Pavane pour un enfant défunte\, Stravinsky’s Piano Sonata 1924\, the sizzling César Franck Piano Quintet and songs by Fauré\, Poulenc and Reynaldo Hahn. She also befriended Marcel Proust and his lover Hahn\, who reciprocated with an evening at their Paris salon\, inspiring a chapter in Swann’s Way. SUMMARY:Madeleine Peyroux & Bettye LaVette: Let’s Walk Tour 2025
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$55 – $85\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event \nReserved $55\nPreferred $65\nPremium $85  \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm)  \nMadeleine Peyroux is an American jazz singer and songwriter who began her career as a teenager on the streets of Paris.  \n“Let us advance our mortal bodies up / Where hearts and minds will go / Let’s walk\, let’s roll.” So sings Madeleine Peyroux on the upbeat title track of her captivating ninth album\, Let’s Walk\, the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s most assured\, courageous work to date. Powered by the distinctive\, honeyed croon that delivered her from the Paris streets to concert halls\, these ten unabashedly personal songs\, all co-written by the versatile Peyroux\, deftly interweave jazz\, folk\, and chamber pop\, with themes ranging from the confessional to the political\, from whimsy to yearning. In every note\, Peyroux digs deep\, rendering this exquisite work with the disarming grace and gravitas of an artist in peak form.   \nFor the ardently civic-minded Peyroux\, Let’s Walk continues the scintillating conversation with her audience – and with the world at large. “This music is part of a dialogue\,” she says. “That’s what art is. It’s engagement\, community. I believe more than anything in getting together with people and listening to music and conversing. Music is the only way I’ve ever built community.”  \nBettye LaVette was hailed by The New York Times as “one of the great soul interpreters of her generation.” She is a singer in the tradition of great vocalists who have come before her like Ray Charles\, Frank Sinatra\, and Dinah Washington\, to name just a few. Bettye is an interpreter of the highest order. Her gift is being able to take a song from any genre\, whether well known or obscure\, and making it completely her own. To quote another great vocalist\, the late George Jones\, “Bettye is truly a ‘singer’s singer.'” \nHer career began in 1962\, at 16 years old\, in Detroit\, Michigan. Her first single\, “My Man\, He’s a Lovin’ Man\,” was on Atlantic Records. Throughout the ‘60s and ‘70s\, she recorded for several major labels. She also appeared in the Broadway Musical Bubbling Brown Sugar alongside Honi Coles and Cab Calloway.  \nNow\, at 79 years old and in her 63rd year in show business\, she is one of very few of her contemporaries who were recording during the birth of soul music in the 1960s and is still creating vital recordings today.  \n\nSponsored by

DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n\n$44 – $79\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event  \n$44 Limited Upper Balcony\n$54 Reserved \n$59 Preferred \n$79 Premium  \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm)  \nEven among the pantheon of music’s finest artists\, Del McCoury stands alone. From the nascent sound of bluegrass that charmed hardscrabble hillbilly honkytonks\, rural schoolhouse stages\, and the crowning glory of the Grand Ole Opry to the present-day culture-buzz of viral videos and digital streams\, Del is the living link. On primetime and late-night television talk shows\, there is Del. From headlining sold-out concerts to music festivals of all genres\, including one carrying his namesake\, there is Del. Where audiences number in the tens of thousands\, and admirers as diverse as country-rock icon Steve Earle and jamband royalty Phish count as a few among hundreds\, there is Del.    \nEmerging from humble beginnings in York County\, Pa.\, nearly eighty years ago\, Del was not the likeliest of candidates for legendary status. As a teen\, he was captivated by the banjo playing of one of its masters\, Earl Scruggs\, and decided he’d be a banjo picker\, too. The Baltimore/Washington\, D.C. bar scene of the early 1960s was lively and rough. Del caught a break. More than a break\, really. It was an opportunity of a lifetime; joining Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys in early 1963. Considered the Father of Bluegrass\, Monroe transformed McCoury\, moving him from the banjo to guitar\, anointing him lead singer\, and providing him with a priceless trove of bluegrass tutelage direct from the source.    \nCountless hours of recording sessions and miles of tireless touring dotted the decades. Del carried on\, and carried with him the hallowed traditions of the form and its dedicated following. The passing years became certificates of authenticity. So\, in the sea of grunge and R&B that dominated the music scene of the mid-1990s\, it was special\, perhaps even startling\, to see: There was Del.  \nNow helming the Del McCoury Band\, with sons Ronnie and Rob\, the ensemble did and continues to represent in a larger\, growing musical community a peerless torchbearer for the entire sweep and scope of bluegrass history.    \nAlmost unimaginable\, McCoury’s sixth decade in a half-century of bluegrass bliss brings new triumphs\, new collaborations\, and new music. With but a single change in membership in twenty seven years The Del McCoury Band shows unprecedented stability as well as garnering the respect and admiration of the industry for its unmistakable work: ten IBMA Entertainer of the Year trophies (most recently in 2024); in 2003\, Del’s awarded membership in the cast of the legendary Grand Ole Opry; the band’s first Best Bluegrass Album Grammy award\, in ’05\, followed by a second Grammy win in 2014\, (not to mention double-digit nominations).    \n\nSponsored by

Formed in 1998 in Ithaca\, NY\, the band rose to prominence after being discovered by bluegrass legend Doc Watson. Their breakthrough came with the song “Wagon Wheel\,” which became a platinum hit and has since become a modern American classic.  \nThe band has earned critical acclaim and industry recognition including two Grammy Awards\, a Trailblazer award from Americana Music Association\, and induction into the Grand Ole Opry. Their latest Grammy nominated album\, Jubilee\, was released in 2023.   \nOld Crow Medicine Show is also known for their relentless touring and electrifying live shows\, which have captivated audiences at festivals\, concert halls\, and intimate venues alike. Their annual New Year’s Eve shows at the Ryman Auditorium are a Nashville tradition.   \nWith music that not only honors the traditions of the past but also continues to inspire new generations of fans\, Old Crow Medicine Show has become a beloved fixture in the American music landscape.\n \nAbout the Opener: Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist and 2023 IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Guitar Player of the Year Trey Hensley has been called a “musical phenom” by NPR\, “a guitar-slinging superhero” by Bluegrass Today and “Nashville’s hottest young player” by Acoustic Guitar magazine.  A multiple Grammy nominee widely recognized for his world class musicianship and guitar prowess (Rolling Stone observes “Trey Hensley shreds”)\, Hensley was invited to perform alongside many of the world’s greatest guitarists at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2023 in Los Angeles. That same year\, Hensley was a featured player in a Guitar World magazine piece titled “6 Blazing Bluegrass Guitarists You Need To Hear.”  But with Hensley it’s not just the guitar that does the talking—he’s also well known for his rich\, soulful and powerful baritone vocals with echoes of Merle Haggard and George Jones (as Holler put it:  “Hensley possesses a strikingly resonate\, emotional voice\, one that makes him a potent singer outside of his superb finger-picking ability.”)\n \n\nSponsored by

SUMMARY:Close Encounters With Music: “Rite of Spring” - Rachmaninoff / Stravinsky
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$30 – $55 \n$30 Upper Balcony\n$55 Orchestra and Mezzanine \nTwo monumental works\, two Russian ex-pats of the same aristocratic background—and two divergent extremes. One\, a master of nostalgia and a formidable pianist\, follows in the footsteps of Chopin. The other\, a trailblazer\, scandalizer and collaborator of Picasso delights in breaking old molds—though harking back to traditional Russian folk material—and ushers in a new age in music\, conceptually aligned with Cubism. Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring shocked tout-Paris and sparked riots (scenes from the film Coco Chanel will be shown). Rachmaninoff’s Sonata in G minor for Cello and Piano was written after a course of hypnotherapy for “composer’s block\,” out of which emerged a work of virtuosity and grandeur\, with his characteristic flourishes and a Russian Bell Époque sensibility. “Terrifyingly difficult” for the piano\, it is a virtual piano concerto—not to downplay the soulful melodic role of the cello!  \nMichael Chertock\, piano; Yehuda Hanani\, cello; Enes Pektas\, baritone

SUMMARY:Bobby Rush: An Intimate Night of Stories & Songs
DESCRIPTION:Indigo Room sneak preview event\nTICKETS\n\n$57 – $77\nGeneral Admission\, table seating  \nMember Sale:\nWednesday\, January 15 at noon\n(Ticket limit: 4 tickets per Member) \nPublic Sale:\nWednesday\, January 22 at noon \n$57 Rows 3 – 5\n$77 Rows 1 & 2 \nDuring his renowned stage show Bobby Rush frequently jumps high into the air\, arms spread and legs tucked\, only to land gracefully and return without a hitch to his dazzling routine. It’s a move you might expect at a contemporary R&B show\, but it’s downright shocking when you realize that Rush is in his early 90s.  \n“I never thought I would be here this long\,” says Rush. “I was 83 years old before I won a Grammy\, but it’s better late than never. I laugh about it\, but I’m so blessed and I surely never thought I’d be making a living doing what I’m doing. I’m not just an old guy on my way out.”  \nHardly. Rush’s busy schedule includes headlining European festivals with his band and solo programs at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center\, and he just recorded an album of brand new material\, All My Love For You\, coming out via his own label Deep Rush Records in collaboration with Nashville-based Thirty Tigers. Over the last several years he’s won two more Grammys\, re-recorded his 1971 hit “Chicken Heads” together with his old friend Buddy Guy and young blues star Christone “Kingfish” Ingram\, and written a critically acclaimed autobiography\, I Ain’t Studdin’ Ya: My American Blues Story. \n\n
