SUMMARY:Close Encounters With Music: L’Amour Toujours – CEWM Commissioning Program World Premiere
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$30 – $55\n \n$30 Upper Balcony \n$55 Orchestra and Mezzanine \nIt’s all about love: A new work for clarinet trio by composer Seth Grosshandler that celebrates young love\, courtship and the serendipity of meeting one’s intended receives its inaugural performance. Signature love arias from favorite operas and Broadway sung by Metropolitan Opera soprano Danielle Talamantes and Kerry Wilkerson. Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock (“My sweetheart dwells so far from me\, I long hotly to be with her over there”) is a tour de force meshing clarinet and soprano. Resolved to retire\, in 1891 Brahms encountered the clarinet playing of Richard Mühlfeld and was inspired by a fresh muse to compose once again. A scholar and close friend of Brahms praised the Clarinet Trio\, writing that “It is as though the instruments were in love with each other.” An all-star ensemble that shares the stage with artistic director Yehuda Hanani includes clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein (“…treats his instrument as his personal voice\, dazzling in its spectrum of colors\, agility\, and range”—Washington Post) returning to CEWM after several seasons. So concludes Season 33 of Close Encounters—bookended by the immortal Brahms\, by inspiration and friendship.    \nMax Levinson\, piano; Alexander Fiterstein\, clarinet; Danielle Talamantes\,soprano; Kerry Wilkerson\, baritone; Yehuda Hanani\, cello

SUMMARY:Steve Earle: Solo & Acoustic
DESCRIPTION:Fifty Years of Songs and Stories\nTICKETS \n\n$44 – $84\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event \n$44 Limited Upper Balcony\n$54 Reserved\n$64 Preferred\n$84 Premium  \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm) \nOpener: Jake Kohn \nSteve Earle is one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation. A protege of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark\, he quickly became a master storyteller in his own right\, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash\, Waylon Jennings\, Joan Baez\, Emmylou Harris\, The Pretenders\, and countless others. 1986 saw the release of his record\, Guitar Town\, which shot to number one on the country charts and is now regarded as a classic of the Americana genre. Most recently\, Earle’s 1988 hit Copperhead Road was made an official state song of Tennessee in 2023.  \nSubsequent releases like The Revolution Starts…Now (2004)\, Washington Square Serenade (2007)\, and TOWNES (2009) received consecutive Grammy Awards. Jerry Jeff\, released in 2022\, consisted of Earle’s versions of songs written by Jerry Jeff Walker\, one of his mentors.  \nEarle has published both a novel I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 2011) and Dog House Roses\, a collection of short stories (Houghton Mifflin 2003). Earle produced albums for other artists such as Joan Baez (Day After Tomorrow) and Lucinda Williams (Car Wheels on A Gravel Road). \nAs an actor\, Earle has appeared in several films and had recurring roles in the HBO series The Wire and Tremé. In 2009\, Earle appeared in the off-Broadway play Samara\, for which he also wrote a score that The New York Times described as “exquisitely subliminal.” Earle wrote music for and appeared in Coal Country\, for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. Earle is the host of the weekly show Hard Core Troubadour on Sirius Radio’s Outlaw Country channel.  \nIn 2020\, Earle was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. And in 2023\, Steve was honored by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music. Steve’s latest album\, Alone Again (Live)\, released on July 12th\, 2024. \n\n  \nSponsored by

SUMMARY:Los Lobos
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n$46 – $76\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event \n$46 Upper Balcony (Limited)\n$56 Reserved\n$66 Preferred\n$76 Premium \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm) \nTogether for over 50 years\, Los Lobos have built an impressive legacy. In between 100-plus concerts a year for five decades running – amassing millions of fans in the process – Los Lobos have released 17 studio albums\, seven live records\, three compilations\, two EPs\, and two feature videos. Through this output\, the band has garnered four Grammys\, an Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction\, the ALMA Ritchie Valens Pioneer Award\, NEA and Hispanic Heritage Foundation Honors\, Congressional recognitions\, and numerous "Keys to the City" and "Los Lobos Day" celebrations. Beyond the accolades\, and the source of it all\, is heart. Los Lobos have dedicated their off-stage time to helping others\, working for peace and justice. Their compositions have transformed the hard cries from the East L.A. barrio into songs of hope\, tales of common folk finding ways to endure. They were weaned on late-night radio's soul\, R&B\, and doo-wop\, and cured through the African-American currents of the blues\, jazz\, and rock 'n' roll. As proud Chicanos\, their songs have always glistened with the distillation from their Mexican and Latin American roots—nourished by Norteña and rancheras\, buoyed by bolero and cumbias\, soaring on the rhythms of son huasteco and son jarocho. Los Lobos have helped spread the rich diversity of cultures across every continent\, throughout the global community. Kids in Antwerp now know about Aztlán. Residents of Luxor and Ghana are crooning Lalo Guerrero. People from Laos and Bulgaria are belting "La Bamba"—all thanks to Los Lobos as cultural ambassadors. Los Lobos are David Hidalgo\, Louie Pérez\, Jr.\, Cesar Rosas\, Conrad Lozano\, Steve Berlin.  \nSponsored by

SUMMARY:New York Theatre Workshop’s Mind the Gap\, Intergenerational Performance Program
DESCRIPTION:Please note: the cast of Friday’s performance of Mind the Gap may have been exposed to Covid. All performers will have tested before the show\, will be symptom-free\, and will be masked whenever not onstage. Since performers will be unmasked onstage\, we will be encouraging audience members to wear masks themselves during the show. Masks will be available as you enter\, or you are welcome to bring your own. \nPublic performance on Friday\, June 27 at 7pm\nAPPLY TO PROGRAM RESERVE TICKETS \n\nMind the Gap is a free intergenerational theatre program in which youth [14-21] and elders [60+] interview each other and collectively create a performance piece inspired by each other’s life stories. Mind the Gap’s primary goal is to use theatre as a creative tool to increase empathy and communication between generations. The workshop will culminate with a public presentation in which the collaborative work is performed by the participants. No theatre experience is required to participate in the program. \n \nYouth stipends are $250 per person.\n \n\n\n\nProgram Goals\nThrough the workshop participants are able to: \n\nInvestigate\, listen and empathize with someone of another generation\, while using playwriting as a tool to understand and represent their unique experience\nBroaden their perspective\, see the other generation in a new light\, and take on the task of telling someone else’s story with respect and understanding\nShare their stories and ultimately see them interpreted through another’s eyes making meaning out of their personal narratives and gaining insights into their own lives\n\nImportant Criteria\n\n\n\n\nDesire to share\, listen and create – sharing your stories with someone of another generation and giving them permission to use your stories as inspiration for a play.\nDesire to bring your curiosity\, stories\, experiences\, creativity\, listening ears\, and willingness to share at every session.\nDesire to perform and act both individually as well as within an ensemble.\nDesire to collaborate generously and with an open mind.\nDesire and ability to attend every session. Since most of the work that we will do together will be in partner groups\, potential participants with fewer conflicts will be prioritized over those with more conflicts.\n\nThings to Remember\n\n\n\nIt is important to note that Mind the Gap is not an acting class; performance is merely the tool through which we mind the gap between generations.\nMind the Gap is not focused exclusively on the past. During the program participants explore the past\, present and the future. However\, Mind the Gap is not a documentary or verbatim theatre program. Intergenerational interviews are used as inspiration\, not as the sole material from which artistic content is created. Participants are treated as artists.\nMind the Gap is not a mentoring program. All participants are seen as equal in the process. We value everyone’s stories\, input and life experiences. At New York Theatre Workshop we believe that we always have something to learn from each other\, regardless of age.\nAlthough we encourage everyone to push past their comfort zones\, we do not demand that anyone share anything that they feel is too personal or too private. On that note\, if participants share something with their partner that they wish not to have shared or written about\, participants always have the right to ask their partner(s) to exclude any information from the artistic piece(s).\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Teaching artist Noor Hamdi (they/them)\n \n \n \n \n \n Teaching artist Marty Chandler (they/them)\n \n \n \n\nLearn more about New York Theatre Workshop at nytw.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

SUMMARY:Boston Early Music Festival presents: Telemann’s Pimpinone and Ino
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$25 – $85  \nOn sale Wednesday\, Match 19 at noon \n$25 Reserved\n$55 Preferred\n$85 Premium  \nPre-show talk an hour prior to the performance \nExplore the depth of Telemann’s genius with a fascinating pairing of stylish slapstick and scintillating drama for an evening of show-stopping virtuosity from the Grammy-winning Boston Early Music Festival!  \nInspired by the Italian comic intermezzi\, chamber opera Pimpinone approaches social class and seduction with brilliant humor and evocative humanity as the narcissistic Pimpinone is stung by the beauty and barbs of his charming chambermaid\, Vespetta. The cantata Ino is a true hidden gem with a thrilling story drawn from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Written late in Telemann’s life\, this miniature masterpiece is a bridge between the Baroque and Classical eras\, full of dynamic theatricality and gorgeous music.  \nGrammy-winners Paul O’Dette & Stephen Stubbs join with Stage Directors Gilbert Blin & Marie-Nathalie Lacoursière to lead a magnificent staging featuring opulent costumes\, Baroque stagecraft\, and outstanding performances from the all-star BEMF Chamber Ensemble and a stellar cast featuring sopranos Amanda Forsythe and Danielle Reutter-Harrah and baritone Christian Immler.

DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \n\n$39 – $59\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event \n$39 Reserved\n$44 Preferred\n$59 Premium \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm)  \nFrom their beginnings in mid-Sixties Ohio as a group of friends playing cover tunes to the present-day unit featuring the propulsive team of drummer Scott Thompson and bassist Jared Camic\, Keyboard Master Randy Harper\, Guitar Ace/vocalist Jeff Zona and Pedal Steel/Saxophonist John Heinrich\, Pure Prairie League continues to embellish the rich 50-plus year history of one of Country-Rock’s pioneering forces. As one reviewer recently wrote: “PPL’s sound combines sweet memories with edgy\, contemporary muscle. Their vocals are as strong as Kentucky moonshine and the musicianship and performance skills are as sharp as a straight razor”. \nTheir eponymous first album – featuring the Norman Rockwell/Saturday Evening Post cover that introduced fans to PPL’s trademark cowpoke “Sad Luke” – has been hailed as a “major early influence in the emerging popularity of Country-Rock music”. Their second effort\, the multi-platinum “Bustin’ Out” brought us the Craig Fuller-penned classic “Amie”\, along with other gems of the genre. With “Two Lane Highway”\, nine more albums and countless shows\, a legacy has been forged and enriched\, highlighting contributions from several noteworthy members\, including original co-founder George Ed Powell\, Cincinnati’s legendary Goshorn Brothers\, Country Hall of Famers Gary Burr and Vince Gill\, award-winning writer Jeff Wilson (3 Top-20 singles)\, top Nashville session vocalist Curtis Wright and a host of other guest appearances from Chet Atkins\, Johnny Gimble\, EmmyLou Harris\, David Sanborn\, Eagle Don Felder\, Nicolette Larson\, Rosemary Butler\, Jenifer Wrinkle\, Jeff (Birdman) Kirk\, Mat Britain and many more. \nNow in their sixth decade\, Pure Prairie League continues to lead the way for the new generation of Country/Rockers such as Keith Urban\, Nickel Creek\, Wilco\, Counting Crows and so many others that cite PPL as a major influence. \nNow\, with the release of their new album “Back On Track” PPL brings it all back home with a dozen new songs that complete the circle begun in 1970 and continues to this day.

SUMMARY:Marc Broussard
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$34 – $54\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event  \n$34 Limited Upper Balcony\n$44 Reserved\n$54 Premium  \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm)  \nAcclaimed singer\, songwriter\, and musician Marc Broussard is an artist with a unique gift of channeling the spirits of classic R&B\, rock\, and soul into contemporary terms. The son of Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard of “The Boogie Kings\,” he nurtured his musical gifts at an early age in the vibrant Lafayette\, Louisiana music scene. After releasing a highly successful independent EP at age 20\, Broussard made his major-label debut with Carencro. The album featured the breakout hit single “Home” and catapulted him into the national spotlight. The Louisiana-born and raised artist has created a wide range of music in his career. Carencro laid the groundwork with unequaled style\, illustrating his knack for modern soul music and setting the stage for his long and distinguished career. That album and the others that followed solidified Broussard as a southern soul singer with a rarefied talent and an innate stylistic and emotional authenticity that have made him one of the most indelible artists of his generation. NPR cited\, “His music radiates soulful Louisiana blues\, but his songs blend those influences with raucous rock ‘n’ roll to create unique and infectious music.”   \nOver the past decade\, Broussard released several notable albums with major labels and has since returned to his independent roots with a series of critically acclaimed original and philanthropic cover albums through his S.O.S Foundation (Save our Soul). Marc has accumulated millions of streams and hundreds of millions of views on viral YouTube videos.   \nBroussard’s incomparable brand of soul\, an infectious mix of rock\, blues\, R&B\, funk-pop\, and soul coupled with his powerful vocals\, has garnered worldwide praise from critics and fans alike. His recent release\, S.O.S. 4 Blues for Your Soul\, a collaboration with blues legend Joe Bonamassa is a stellar collection of blues and soul classics that debuted at Number One on the Billboard Blues Album Chart. The fourth volume in his S.O.S. series\, the album benefits Bonamassa’s charitable foundation.   \nMarc Broussard’s new studio album\, Time is a Thief finds the acclaimed singer/songwriter delivering an infectious ten-song set filled with gritty\, rootsy hooks and dance-floor grooves\, all wrapped around Broussard’s fervent vocals. Produced by Grammy-winning guitarist/songwriter/producer Eric Krasno and Grammy-nominated producer/guitarist Jeremy Most\, Time Is a Thief has a funky\, soulful sound and is wonderfully layered with diverse sonic textures that distinguish it from his previous recordings. His first album of new music since 2017’s\, Easy to Love\, Time is a Thief arrives via his Artist Tone Label.

He can most recently be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the hit Hulu comedy series\, Life & Beth.  \nGary’s first book published by Flatiron Books is titled Misfit: Growing Up Awkward in the ’80s\, a memoir based on his life from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. It was released in September of 2023. Amy Schumer called the book “laugh out loud funny and heartfelt” and MacArthur Fellowship recipient Adrian Nicole LeBlanc found it “exquisite\, love-affirming and generous.”  \nToday\, Gulman is one of the most popular touring comics\, selling out theaters around the country including the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. Gary’s current tour “Misfit: A Gary Gulman Stand Up & Book Tour” features material based on his book\, but not a repeat of the book.  \nOpening Act: Emily Ruskowski \nCo-sponsored by

Originally coming together in the ’90s as a late-night funk band\, the group has grown into a genre-defying collective that continues to evolve while staying true to their roots. Their high-energy live shows and adventurous collaborations have earned them a loyal following around the world. \nIn recent years\, Galactic has been touring and recording with dynamic vocalist Jelly Joseph\, whose soulful\, commanding voice adds a powerful new dimension to their sound. The band also serves as the owner and steward of the legendary Tipitina’s music venue\, where they host iconic performances and foster the next generation of New Orleans artists. In 2021\, they launched Tipitina’s Record Club\, an all-vinyl label celebrating the city’s rich musical legacy. \nTheir newest release\, Audience With the Queen (out April 11\, 2025)\, marks a major milestone: a full-length collaboration with Irma Thomas\, the beloved “Soul Queen of New Orleans.” Featuring Thomas on every track\, the album blends her timeless voice with Galactic’s modern edge\, delivering a powerful and deeply rooted collection of songs that honor both tradition and innovation. \nAudience With the Queen is a testament to Galactic’s unique place in American music—deeply New Orleans\, endlessly collaborative\, and always pushing forward.
