SUMMARY:Madeleine Peyroux & Bettye LaVette: Let’s Walk Tour 2025
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$55 – $85\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event \nReserved $55\nPreferred $65\nPremium $85  \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm)  \nMadeleine Peyroux is an American jazz singer and songwriter who began her career as a teenager on the streets of Paris.  \n“Let us advance our mortal bodies up / Where hearts and minds will go / Let’s walk\, let’s roll.” So sings Madeleine Peyroux on the upbeat title track of her captivating ninth album\, Let’s Walk\, the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s most assured\, courageous work to date. Powered by the distinctive\, honeyed croon that delivered her from the Paris streets to concert halls\, these ten unabashedly personal songs\, all co-written by the versatile Peyroux\, deftly interweave jazz\, folk\, and chamber pop\, with themes ranging from the confessional to the political\, from whimsy to yearning. In every note\, Peyroux digs deep\, rendering this exquisite work with the disarming grace and gravitas of an artist in peak form.   \nFor the ardently civic-minded Peyroux\, Let’s Walk continues the scintillating conversation with her audience – and with the world at large. “This music is part of a dialogue\,” she says. “That’s what art is. It’s engagement\, community. I believe more than anything in getting together with people and listening to music and conversing. Music is the only way I’ve ever built community.”  \nBettye LaVette was hailed by The New York Times as “one of the great soul interpreters of her generation.” She is a singer in the tradition of great vocalists who have come before her like Ray Charles\, Frank Sinatra\, and Dinah Washington\, to name just a few. Bettye is an interpreter of the highest order. Her gift is being able to take a song from any genre\, whether well known or obscure\, and making it completely her own. To quote another great vocalist\, the late George Jones\, “Bettye is truly a ‘singer’s singer.'” \nHer career began in 1962\, at 16 years old\, in Detroit\, Michigan. Her first single\, “My Man\, He’s a Lovin’ Man\,” was on Atlantic Records. Throughout the ‘60s and ‘70s\, she recorded for several major labels. She also appeared in the Broadway Musical Bubbling Brown Sugar alongside Honi Coles and Cab Calloway.  \nNow\, at 79 years old and in her 63rd year in show business\, she is one of very few of her contemporaries who were recording during the birth of soul music in the 1960s and is still creating vital recordings today.  \n\nSponsored by

SUMMARY:Del McCoury Band
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n\n$44 – $79\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event  \n$44 Limited Upper Balcony\n$54 Reserved \n$59 Preferred \n$79 Premium  \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket\n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm)  \nEven among the pantheon of music’s finest artists\, Del McCoury stands alone. From the nascent sound of bluegrass that charmed hardscrabble hillbilly honkytonks\, rural schoolhouse stages\, and the crowning glory of the Grand Ole Opry to the present-day culture-buzz of viral videos and digital streams\, Del is the living link. On primetime and late-night television talk shows\, there is Del. From headlining sold-out concerts to music festivals of all genres\, including one carrying his namesake\, there is Del. Where audiences number in the tens of thousands\, and admirers as diverse as country-rock icon Steve Earle and jamband royalty Phish count as a few among hundreds\, there is Del.    \nEmerging from humble beginnings in York County\, Pa.\, nearly eighty years ago\, Del was not the likeliest of candidates for legendary status. As a teen\, he was captivated by the banjo playing of one of its masters\, Earl Scruggs\, and decided he’d be a banjo picker\, too. The Baltimore/Washington\, D.C. bar scene of the early 1960s was lively and rough. Del caught a break. More than a break\, really. It was an opportunity of a lifetime; joining Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys in early 1963. Considered the Father of Bluegrass\, Monroe transformed McCoury\, moving him from the banjo to guitar\, anointing him lead singer\, and providing him with a priceless trove of bluegrass tutelage direct from the source.    \nCountless hours of recording sessions and miles of tireless touring dotted the decades. Del carried on\, and carried with him the hallowed traditions of the form and its dedicated following. The passing years became certificates of authenticity. So\, in the sea of grunge and R&B that dominated the music scene of the mid-1990s\, it was special\, perhaps even startling\, to see: There was Del.  \nNow helming the Del McCoury Band\, with sons Ronnie and Rob\, the ensemble did and continues to represent in a larger\, growing musical community a peerless torchbearer for the entire sweep and scope of bluegrass history.    \nAlmost unimaginable\, McCoury’s sixth decade in a half-century of bluegrass bliss brings new triumphs\, new collaborations\, and new music. With but a single change in membership in twenty seven years The Del McCoury Band shows unprecedented stability as well as garnering the respect and admiration of the industry for its unmistakable work: ten IBMA Entertainer of the Year trophies (most recently in 2024); in 2003\, Del’s awarded membership in the cast of the legendary Grand Ole Opry; the band’s first Best Bluegrass Album Grammy award\, in ’05\, followed by a second Grammy win in 2014\, (not to mention double-digit nominations).    \n\nSponsored by

The mission of Pilobolus is to create\, perform\, and preserve dances\, expand and diversify audiences\, and teach dancers\, non-dancers\, and organizations to harness creative potential. \nProgram: \nBloodlines: This women’s duet\, a rare gem in Pilobolus’s 50+ year repertory\, explores the natural progression of life\, as children eventually come to support their predecessors. Sculptural in form\, highlighting balance and strength\, and capturing the essence of life’s evolving roles and everlasting cycles. It explores the beautiful complexities of role reversals that are not just inevitable\, but also enriching\, as they reveal the unfading bonds that link generations. \nLamentation: Pilobolus is honored to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the Martha Graham Dance Company—GRAHAM100—by bringing its interpretation of Graham’s seminal work\, Lamentation\, to the stage as part of the Lamentation Variations Project. \nWalklyndon\, a seminal piece in Pilobolus’s repertoire\, is an all-time favorite that captures the playful essence of the company’s early days. During this time\, four men were joyously exploring outlets for creativity\, barnstorming the Northeast\, and even opening for Frank Zappa. Created in a squash court in Lyndonville\, VT\, and inspired by silly walks and slapstick\, this 50-year-old classic continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. It reflects the company’s penchant for double entendres and boundless energy\, filling theaters with squeals of laughter from both children and adults alike. \nTales from the Underworld\, a new sextet\, is a Pilobolean take on the story ballet\, exploring the delicate balance between love and loss. Inspired by the tragic love story of Eurydice and Orpheus\, the piece meditates on the rapture of love and how it can draw us into a trance-like descent where the fragility of human connection is laid bare. With an evocative yet cerebral score by Bogie and unique lighting that creates two distinct worlds—the visible realm above and the murky underbelly below—Tales from the Underworld embodies the universal journey of life’s cycles and a renewed sense of responsibility for our shared human experience with a blend of horror\, humor\, and revelation. \nRushes: A collaboration with world-renowned dance-theater makers Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak\, Rushes is a mix of movement languages born out of a series of conversations and a laboratory workshop. In an isolated community of broken dreams\, six characters navigate belonging\, isolation\, desperation\, and relief\, punctuated by surreal humor in a world where Jasque Tati meets Nikolai Gogol. Pilobolus’s quirky partnering\, graceful glides\, unforgettable props usage\, and deep emotional impact make the piece unforgettable. Formed in 1998 in Ithaca\, NY\, the band rose to prominence after being discovered by bluegrass legend Doc Watson. Their breakthrough came with the song “Wagon Wheel\,” which became a platinum hit and has since become a modern American classic.  \nThe band has earned critical acclaim and industry recognition including two Grammy Awards\, a Trailblazer award from Americana Music Association\, and induction into the Grand Ole Opry. Their latest Grammy nominated album\, Jubilee\, was released in 2023.   \nOld Crow Medicine Show is also known for their relentless touring and electrifying live shows\, which have captivated audiences at festivals\, concert halls\, and intimate venues alike. Their annual New Year’s Eve shows at the Ryman Auditorium are a Nashville tradition.   \nWith music that not only honors the traditions of the past but also continues to inspire new generations of fans\, Old Crow Medicine Show has become a beloved fixture in the American music landscape.\n \nAbout the Opener: Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist and 2023 IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Guitar Player of the Year Trey Hensley has been called a “musical phenom” by NPR\, “a guitar-slinging superhero” by Bluegrass Today and “Nashville’s hottest young player” by Acoustic Guitar magazine.  A multiple Grammy nominee widely recognized for his world class musicianship and guitar prowess (Rolling Stone observes “Trey Hensley shreds”)\, Hensley was invited to perform alongside many of the world’s greatest guitarists at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2023 in Los Angeles. That same year\, Hensley was a featured player in a Guitar World magazine piece titled “6 Blazing Bluegrass Guitarists You Need To Hear.”  But with Hensley it’s not just the guitar that does the talking—he’s also well known for his rich\, soulful and powerful baritone vocals with echoes of Merle Haggard and George Jones (as Holler put it:  “Hensley possesses a strikingly resonate\, emotional voice\, one that makes him a potent singer outside of his superb finger-picking ability.”)\n \n\nSponsored by
