SUMMARY:New York Theatre Workshop's Mind the Gap
DESCRIPTION:Workshop: Monday\, August 3 through Friday August 7\nRESERVE FOR PERFORMANCE–APPLY TO WORKSHOP \nNew York Theatre Workshop’s Mind the Gap returns to the Mahaiwe this summer\, August 3-7. The intergenerational workshop will take place in the Indigo Room all week long\, culminating in a free public performance in that space on Friday\, August 7 at 7pm.  \nMind the Gap is a weeklong performance workshop that brings together youth and elders to explore identity\, legacy\, and empathy through storytelling and theatre-making. Participants work in intergenerational pairs and as a full ensemble to develop original performance pieces based on their lived experiences. The program culminates in a final invited sharing where participants perform their collaboratively devised work.  \nTo apply\, visit mahaiwe.org/applymtg. Applications are open through June 22 at 5 p.m. Youth participants are supported through $250 stipends.   \nMind the Gap is facilitated by New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW). NYTW Teaching Artists Noor Hamdi and Psacoya Guinn will lead this year’s workshop.   \nNoor Hamdi \nNoor Hamdi is a New York based actor\, teacher\, and writer. He’s performed on Broadway (Skin of Our Teeth\, directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz)\, Off-Broadway (including Cartography\, directed by Kaneza Schaal)\, regionally\, and internationally\, as well as in various short films (including Sherman\, directed by Darine Hotait) and TV. Noor is always happy to popularize queer and SWANA narratives\, and especially the intersection of the two\, and is currently performing his solo show 2014. They’re also a clown\, circus artist\, polyglot\, gamer\, and eternal academic.   \nPsacoya Guinn \nPsacoya Guinn is the Director of Education and Community Engagement at NYTW. She is dedicated to cultivating inclusive spaces that amplify diverse voices and spark dialogue across differences. As the facilitator of Mind the Gap\, Psacoya brings a thoughtful\, community-centered approach grounded in empathy\, active listening\, and the power of storytelling. When she is not at NYTW\, she enjoys all things Shakespeare and Peloton.  \nNew York Theatre Workshop is a community of artists and audience members who believe in the transformative power of theatre. For 40 years\, NYTW has cultivated a space where our common humanity is affirmed—where audiences are both challenged and delighted by the daring vision of our artists.  \nMind the Gap at the Indigo Room is made possible by the Mahaiwe’s Performing Arts Education Sponsors: Adams Community Savings Bank\, Beacon Bank Foundation\, Berkshire Money Management\, Bulkley Richardson\, Golub/Price Chopper/Market 32 Foundation\, Lee Bank Foundation\, and NBT Bank.

A singer songwriter\, poet\, guimbri player\, dancer and world traveler\, Lala Tamar stirs ancient North African rituals into fresh\, feminine alchemy. She sings in Arabic\, Amazigh and Portuguese making music that feels like flipping through your grandmother's photo album while dancing in a poppy dreamscape. \nLala made history as the first artist to record a contemporary album in Haquetia and one of the first women to introduce the Guimbri to new musical worlds. She's shared stages with North African greats like Karim Ziad\, Khadija El Warzazia\, and Mehdi Nassouly\, and recently made her Lincoln Center debut in NYC. \nWith her new original album in the making\, written mainly in Darija\, Lala takes you on an intimate feminine Moroccan dive\, an up-beat tribute to her ancestry. Lala invites you to join her world: a place of play and poetry\, softness and strength\, where music isn't just heard… it's remembered. \nThe ensemble explores the sounds of a caravan moving through the Sahara\, shaabi grooves from Agahadir and Algiers\, African strings\, Arab ornamentations\, music for ceremonies of healing\, trances and spells of connection\, poetry pulled from distant centuries. It is an unforgettable evening of friendship\, love and humanity that transcend borders. \nMaster kora player Yacouba Sissoko devotes his musical gift to expand the awareness of West African history and culture\, spread the word of peace\, and empower his listeners to take charge and realize their imagined futures. His performances have a magical effect on audiences as he skillfully transforms the traditional songs and stories of his forefathers into modern day messages of peace\, love\, and harmony. Yacouba was born to a well-known Djeli family in Kita\, Mali. For centuries\, Djelis have been the musical storytellers\, a position that is inherited through a family bloodline. Highly respected within their communities\, they are the keepers of the factual history and the fictional fables of past rulers\, nobles\, social groups and families. The kora\, a 21-stringed plucked instrument with a gourd resonator\, is the traditional instrument accompanying their songs. At the age of 9\, Yacouba started learning the kora and the oral traditions associated with it from his grandfather. By 15\, he was touring the country sharing the stories passed down through his family for centuries. He attended the National Institute of the Arts in Bamako\, where he immediately caught the attention of the music world there and began touring with noted artists and ensembles such as Ami Koita\, Kandia Kouyate\, the Raoul Fulero Ensemble\, and l'Ensemble National du Mali (the orchestra that both his mother and grandmother sang with). Rooted to give back to the community\, Yacouba offers cultural programs and benefit concerts all over the world. He continues to blend his virtuosity effortlessly with other musical styles\, ranging from Indian ragas to Appalachian tunes. Currently\, Yacouba can be seen performing regularly with Regina Carter and his own band\, SIYA.

SUMMARY:Los Lonely Boys
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n\n$34 – $69 (plus processing fees)\nMahaiwe Member & Youth Discount Event  \n$34 Limited Upper Balcony\n$49 Reserved\n$59 Preferred\n$69 Premium  \nFor Los Lonely Boys—brothers Henry\, Jojo\, and Ringo Garza—family has always been at the heart of their music. After years of touring\, the trio took a break in 2019 to focus on their families\, returning to the road in 2022 reinvigorated and even opening for The Who. \nHailing from San Angelo\, Texas\, the Garzas created their own bluesy “Texican rock & roll” sound and turned it into a global sensation. Their breakthrough came when Willie Nelson’s nephew discovered their demo; Willie soon booked them for Farm Aid and recorded with them at his studio. Their 2003 debut album\, Los Lonely Boys\, re-released by Epic\, featured the No. 1 hit “Heaven\,” which earned them a Grammy and spent 76 weeks on the Billboard Top 200\, selling over two million copies. \nThey’ve collaborated with legends like Carlos Santana and Willie Nelson\, played iconic venues\, and supported global causes. Their journey\, chronicled in the documentary Cottonfields and Crossroads\, has seen both triumph and hardship—most notably Henry’s serious stage accident in 2013\, which led the band to refocus on what matters most: family and music. \nNow back in stride\, Los Lonely Boys continue to write\, record\, and tour with renewed passion. Their 2024 release\, Resurrection (BMG)\, blends their signature Texican rock & roll with elements of soul and roots music\, earning critical acclaim and energizing live audiences. More than two decades after their debut\, they remain a vital force in music\, proving their story is still unfolding. \nOpening act: Lisa Morales \nSponsored by \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Raul Midón
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n$49 General Admission (plus processing fees)\nCafé table seating \nMember Sale:\nWednesday\, May 27 at noon \nPublic Sale:\nThursday\, May 28 at noon \nGrammy-nominated singer-songwriter and guitarist Raul Midón has built a genre-defying career that blends soul\, jazz\, Latin rhythms\, and acoustic virtuosity into a sound entirely his own. Blind since birth\, Midón has often been described as a “one-man band”—turning his guitar into an orchestra and his voice into a chorus (The New York Times). His artistry has earned praise from icons such as Quincy Jones (“his music makes you smile”)\, Elton John (who called State of Mind a “soul classic”)\, and Bill Withers\, who championed his music.  \nMidón first captivated audiences worldwide with his breakthrough album State of Mind\, produced by the legendary Arif Mardin. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary\, the album remains a touchstone of modern soul and jazz. Over the years\, he has collaborated with a remarkable range of artists\, from Herbie Hancock\, Stevie Wonder\, and Marcus Miller to Snoop Dogg and Roberta Flack. He has performed with orchestras\, at jazz festivals across the globe\, and even appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show to debut new work.  \nA true eclectic adventurist (People)\, Midón continues to push boundaries. His latest album\, Lost & Found (2024)\, released on his own ReKondite ReKords label\, showcases his evolution as a storyteller and composer while reaffirming the joyful\, borderless spirit that defines his music. Whether onstage with only his guitar or accompanied by full orchestra\, Raul Midón embodies what The Guardian once called a “totally musical mind at work.”

DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n$45 to $70 (plus processing fees)\nMahaiwe Members & Youth Discount Event  \nMember Sale:\nWednesday\, May 13 at 10am online\, noon via the Box Office \nPublic Sale:\nFriday\, May 15 at noon \n$45 Reserved \n$60 Preferred\n$70 Premium  \nMembers receive $5 off each ticket \n$15 ages 30 and under (visit the Box Office or call 413-528-0100\, Wed – Sat\, 12-4pm) \nAcclaimed singer songwriter\, piano virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist A.J. Croce is once again taking his celebrated Croce Plays Croce tour across the country\, bringing audiences an unforgettable evening of music that bridges generations and celebrates the enduring power of song.  \nFrom his earliest performances as a teenager\, to his critically acclaimed albums and world tours\, A.J. Croce has forged a remarkable career entirely on his own terms. Over the course of three and a half decades and eleven studio albums\, he has become known as an acclaimed songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and electrifying performer\, with more than twenty songs reaching Billboard’s Top 40 charts across multiple genres. Celebrated for his ability to bridge styles and eras with effortless grace\, Croce moves fluidly through American roots\, rock n’ roll\, blues\, jazz\, soul\, and world music\, creating a sound that is as distinctive as it is timeless.  \nThroughout his remarkable career\, A.J. has shared the stage with an extraordinary list of musical icons — including Ray Charles\, B.B. King\, James Brown\, Willie Nelson\, Lyle Lovett\, and Rod Stewart — each collaboration adding another layer to his deep and diverse musical story.  \nSon of the legendary singer songwriter\, Jim Croce\, A.J. purposefully waited thirty years to perform his father’s music\, only introducing his acclaimed Croce Plays Croce tour when he felt there was a meaningful way to honor his musical legacy with depth\, intention\, and musical integrity. Croce Plays Croce showcases that legacy in a way that few concerts can. The show features a moving and energetic blend of Jim Croce’s legendary songs — such as “Operator”\, “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim\,” “Bad Bad Leroy Brown” and “Time in a Bottle” — alongside A.J.’s own acclaimed originals. Through stories\, humor\, and remarkable musicianship\, A.J. connects audiences to both his father’s iconic body of work and his own evolution as one of today’s most respected artists.

It stood out in the midst of the flash and bombast that came to define the late 80’s. The now classic recording combined folk\, blues and rock in a way that had never been heard before and went on to sell more than a million copies. \nFormed in Toronto in 1985 with siblings Michael Timmins on guitar\, Margo Timmins on vocals\, Peter Timmins on drums\, and Michael’s lifelong friend Alan Anton on bass\, the band has sparkled over the course of 29 albums. “I’ve known Alan longer than I’ve known Pete\,” says Michael. “We were friends before Pete was born. \nUnlike most long-lasting groups\, Cowboy Junkies have never had a break up or taken a sanity-saving hiatus. There’s an appreciation of each other that keeps them constantly working. “It’s that intimacy and understanding of what each one of us brings to the table\,” says Michael. \n\nSponsored by
