FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Great Barrington, Mass.—The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center will reopen for limited capacity screenings starting Wednesday, October 7. For information on steps the theater has taken to ensure audience safety, see mahaiwe.org.

The performing arts center will resume its indoor programming with a variety of horror and eccentric screened content through the month of October.

Two high definition screenings of Kinky Boots from the live cinema events presenter By Experience will take place Wednesdays, October 7 and 14, at 7:30pm. The London production features songs by Cyndi Lauper, direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell and book by Harvey Fierstein. This award-winning musical tells the story of an unlikely partnership to save a shoe factory — a campy, high-heeled romp with Brit grit.

The Mahaiwe will present three screenings of the 1984 comedy-horror film Gremlins (rated PG), Friday, October 9 at 7:30pm, and Saturday, October 10 at 4:30pm and 7:30pm. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the special effects-heavy classic features wide-eyed creatures that aren’t what they seem.

The theater will screen Jordan Peele’s 2017 directorial debut Get Out (rated R) three times, on Saturday, October 17 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, October 18 at 4:30pm and 7:30pm. The film follows Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) on a visit to his new girlfriend’s family in this offbeat horror about race and deception.

Two high definition screenings of National Theatre’s celebrated production of Frankenstein will show on Wednesdays, October 21 and 28, at 7:30pm. Benedict Cumberbatch portrays Doctor Frankenstein in the October 21 screening and the creature on October 28.

The Mahaiwe will screen the 1993 movie Hocus Pocus (rated PG) three times, on Friday, October 23 at 7:30pm, and Saturday, October 24, at 4:30pm and 7:30pm. This fantasy-comedy stars Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as three troublemaking Salem witches resurrected on Halloween night.

The month wraps up with three screenings of a Classic Horror Movie Double Feature on Friday, October 30 at 7:30pm, and Saturday, October 31 at 4:30pm and 7:30pm. The original Frankenstein from 1931 starring Boris Karloff will be followed by the 1940 sci-fi The Devil Bat starring Bela Lugosi.

Tickets to HD screenings are $17. Tickets to movies are $9. All tickets must be purchased in advance at mahaiwe.org or 413-528-0100 during Box Office hours, Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 4pm.
