Drawn from a medieval Jewish legend\, Der Golem tells the tale of the Jews of 16th-century Prague\, who create a giant figure out of clay to protect themselves—only to see it turn on them with violence. In his new production\, Rolando Villazón—the tenor who has embarked on a brilliant second career as a director—retains the opera's original setting in the Swiss Alps but uses its somnambulant plot to explore the emotional and psychological valleys of the mind. Tenor Xabier Anduaga co-stars as Amina's fiancé\, Elvino\, alongside soprano Sydney Mancasola as her rival\, Lisa\, and bass Alexander Vinogradov as Count Rodolfo. Riccardo Frizza takes the podium for one of opera's most ravishing works. This operatic gem from one of the great masters of melody is a benchmark of extraordinary vocalism. Simply put\, we have become elitist about Hip-hop culture. This elitism is due to this generation’s obsession with ‘keeping it real.’ The truth of the matter is this generation will never relive my generation’s era of original dance. My generation defined the three laws of Hip-hop culture: innovation\, individuality\, and creativity. At best\, they can appreciate it\, pay homage to it\, and acknowledge it as the foundational era of hip-hop/street dance it was; in doing that\, they will tap into their individuality\, creativity\, and innovation\, which in turn ensures progress. The work’s title\, Nuttin’ But A Word\, was taken from a cultural phrase used amongst Blacks in the United States. The complete phrase is\, ‘You ain’t said nothing but a word’; loosely translated\, it means\, ‘Your words mean nothing — pay close attention because what I do next will trump anything you have to say.’ Hip-hop/street dance is progressive by design. There is nothing about the three Laws of Hip-Hop that suggests stagnation. Nothing about these laws indicates that we as practitioners of Hip-hop should only adhere to its foundation; it is quite the opposite. There are gay\, lesbian\, and transgender children in Democratic\, Republican\, and independent families who fear for their lives. Have mercy\, Mr. President\, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away. The first woman elected to this position\, she also serves as the chair of the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation\, which oversees the ministries of the Washington National Cathedral and Cathedral schools. She is an advocate and organizer in support of justice in all its forms\, including racial equity\, gun-violence prevention\, immigration reform\, the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons\, and the care of creation. She was consecrated as the ninth bishop of Washington in November 2011. Prior to her election\, she served for 18 years as rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Minneapolis. She is the author of three books\, most recently How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith (2023).  \nMarilynne Robinson was the recipient of a 2012 National Humanities Medal\, awarded by President Barack Obama\, for “her grace and intelligence in writing.” The four novels of her acclaimed Gilead series\, each of which were selected for Oprah’s Book Club in 2021\, are Gilead (2004)\, for which she won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award; Home (2008)\, for which she won the Orange Prize and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize; Lila (2014)\, for which she won the National Book Critics Circle Award; and Jack (2020). Her first novel\, Housekeeping (1980)\, won the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award. Her works of nonfiction include Reading Genesis (2024); What Are We Doing Here? (2018); The Givenness of Things (2015); When I Was a Child I Read Books (2012); Absence of Mind: The Dispelling of Inwardness from the Modern Myth of the Self (2010); The Death of Adam: Essays on Modern Thought (1998); and Mother Country: Britain\, the Welfare State\, and Nuclear Pollution (1989). Du Bois\, arises with new urgency as executive orders and other government actions serve to undermine the practice of history in classrooms\, on campus\, and within institutions like the Smithsonian\, the Library of Congress\, and the National Parks. \nHow else to create a more just and compassionate future than by exploring\, preserving\, and sharing the full complexity of our collective past? \nJoin award-winning scholar David W. Blight (Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom) and former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick—two models of public service and public spirit—as they discuss how to foster historical understanding and civil discourse in a contentious political climate. He is also a professor of practice at the Harvard Kennedy School and was the co-director of its Center for Public Leadership from 2022 to 2024. He is the founder of Bain Capital Double Impact and was its managing partner from 2015 to 2019. Under his leadership as governor\, Massachusetts ranked first in the nation in student achievement\, energy efficiency\, health-care coverage\, veterans’ services\, and entrepreneurship\, and emerged from recession to achieve a 25-year high in employment. He has been a senior executive in two Fortune 50 companies\, a partner in two Boston law firms\, and the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the United States Justice Department. He is the founder and honorary chair of the Our Generation Speaks\, founder and honorary chair of Project 351\, and former co-chair of the Future of Tech Commission.
