SUMMARY:Close Encounters With Music: “On the Wings of Song”—Schumann’s Dichterliebe and Mendelssohn Piano Trio
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS$35 Balcony / $60 Orchestra (plus processing fees)\nMahaiwe Member Discount Event \nMahaiwe Members receive $5 off each ticket \nRobert Schumann’s setting of Heinrich Heine’s song cycle Dichterliebe—A Poet’s Love—is spellbinding. Love and betrayal are rendered with such intimacy that the boundary between singer and listener disappears. It is Romanticism at its most exquisite. Mendelssohn\, too\, was captivated by Heine’s genius and set several of his poems\, including “On Wings of Song.” His majestic Piano Trio in D minor expresses his belief in a harmonious\, enlightened world and the triumph of beauty. The charismatic baritone Tyler Duncan\, joined by collaborator pianist Adam Golka\, brings profound psychological insight to the text.  With a voice described as “honey-coloured and warm\, yet robust and commanding” (The Globe and Mail)\, baritone Tyler Duncan has performed worldwide to great acclaim in both opera and concert repertoire\, including major roles at the Met\, Spoleto Festival and with Handel and Haydn Society. \nTyler Duncan\, baritone; Adam Golka\, piano; Miranda Cuckson\, violin; Yehuda Hanani\, cello

SUMMARY:Met Opera Live in HD: Gabriela Lena Frank's Último Sueño de Frida y Diego
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS$25 / $10 ages 21 and under. (plus processing fees)\nConnectorCare/WIC/EBT Card to Culture*  \nThe Metropolitan Opera's 2025–26 Live in HD season comes to a close with American composer Gabriela Lena Frank's first opera\, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico's painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera\, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth\, the story depicts Frida\, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard\, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego\, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love\, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met-premiere staging of Frank's opera\, a "confident\, richly imagined score" (The New Yorker) that "bursts with color and fresh individuality" (Los Angele Times). The vibrant new production\, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego's paintings\, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker.  \n*We accept ConnectorCare/WIC/EBT cards! SUMMARY:Close Encounters With Music: Romance of the Romani!—Ravel\, Bartók\, Liszt\, Haydn\, and Brahms Piano Quartet
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS$35 Balcony / $60 Orchestra (plus processing fees)\nMahaiwe Member Discount Event \nMahaiwe Members receive $5 off each ticket \nThe season closes with the irresistible fire and passion of music shaped by Romani traditions\, which left an indelible mark on European composers. The romance\, longing\, and sense of freedom in these melodies found their way into some of the most beloved works of the repertoire. Haydn’s Piano Trio No. 39\, with its famous “Gypsy” Rondo\, dazzles in Hungarian style\, while Brahms unleashes unbridled intensity in the torrential finale of his Piano Quartet No. 1. Ravel (Tzigane)\, Bartók (Romanian Dances)\, and Liszt (Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2) add their voices to this vibrant tradition. After the performance\, join us for a festive reception—complete with a fortune teller to offer a lighthearted glimpse into your future. Our prediction: a brilliant season finale filled with inspired music and extraordinary performers. \nMax Levinson\, piano; Giora Schmidt\, violin; Helena Baillie\, viola; Yehuda Hanani\, cello; Laura Melnicoff\, cello
