Great Barrington, Mass.—The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center will present two mainstage headliners, four Indigo Room shows, and two screenings this April: Parsons Dance, April 4; Adam Gopnik’s New York, April 25; Indigo Comedy Night with Jim Tews, April 10; Juanito Pascual Trio, April 11; Berkshire Opera Festival’s Once Upon an Opera, April 12; Jane Monheit, April 17; All My Sons, from London’s National Theatre in HD, April 18; and Being There (1927), April 24.
Mainstage: Parsons Dance
Parsons Dance will perform on the Mahaiwe’s mainstage on Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Known for its energized, athletic, and joyous style, Parsons Dance is internationally renowned for creating and performing contemporary American dance. Their bold ensemble work and movement has solidified them as one of the world’s leading dance companies. Works, like the iconic Caught, exemplify this company’s innovation and huge audience appeal. Parsons Dance is always a favorite that is sure to thrill audiences with their effortless movement and stunning dancers. As The New York Times describes, “This is a ‘dance your heart out’ (at all times, no excuses) kind of enterprise.”
The program on April 4 will feature six pieces: “Wolfgang” (2005), “Takademe” (1996), “Fearless” (2026), “Mr. Withers” (2022), “Caught” (1982), and “Nascimento Novo” (2006).

Indigo Comedy Night: Jim Tews
Stand-up comic Jim Tews will perform at the Indigo Room on Friday, April 10 at 8 p.m., as part of the new venue’s ongoing comedy series.
Jim Tews has performed all over the U.S. and internationally. He’s been a part of several notable comedy festivals including San Francisco Sketchfest and Just For Laughs Montreal. His two live albums debuted in the top three comedy titles on the iTunes charts, and both receive regular play on satellite radio. He’s appeared on NBC, FX, and more. He continues to perform mostly in New York but is willing to travel to whatever other cities, states, or countries will have him.
Tews’ performance will be hosted by fellow comic Elizabeth Becz and feature a supporting comedian. This performance is ages 18 and up.

Indigo Room: Juanito Pascual Trio
The Mahaiwe will present the Juanito Pascual Trio at the Indigo Room on Saturday, April 11 at 8 p.m.
Jonathan “Juanito” Pascual is an internationally recognized guitarist and “flamenco phenom” (The Boston Globe). His sound is a truly organic blend of masterful traditional and contemporary flamenco with influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead to Miles Davis and J.S. Bach. Juanito brings together global audiences through his mesmerizing virtuosity, original composition style, dedication to music as a global communicator, and passion for collaboration. Energized by the desire to share the beauty and soul-stirring power of flamenco, with its ancient roots, yet vibrant and evolving tradition, Juanito’s performances, recordings, and workshops reverberate with infectious charisma. Recent highlights include a performance at TEDx Nashville, an international tour and appearance in a documentary film with Flamenco icon Jorge Pardo, and performances for film scores in his new home of Los Angeles. Receiving praise for the Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio album (2014), All About Jazz noted “Pascual manages to uphold and extend the traditions of flamenco music, creating something distinctive in the process,” a sentiment cherished by Pascual, a dedicated 21st-century musician.
Pascual’s trio will feature bassist Brad Barrett and Jose Moreno on percussion and vocals.

Indigo Room: BOF’s Once Upon an Opera
The Mahaiwe and Berkshire Opera Festival will present Once Upon an Opera, a free family concert at the Indigo Room on Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
Berkshire Opera Festival’s free family concert returns with a high-energy mix of opera’s best-loved classics, packed with soaring melodies you’ll instantly recognize. This fun, hour-long interactive performance invites kids and adults alike to get involved and experience the excitement of live opera up close. It’s the perfect way to spark curiosity, share great music, and make a memorable family outing. This unforgettable afternoon of world-class music is free and open to all ages. Indigo Room: Jane Monheit
The Mahaiwe will present jazz vocalist Jane Monheit at the Indigo Room on Friday, April 17 at 8 p.m.
With a voice that exudes warmth and sophistication, dazzling jazz vocalist Jane Monheit is renowned for her innovative interpretations of Great American Songbook standards, from ballads to blues. Catapulted to stardom at age 20 for her immense musical talent, Jane has spent the last two decades touring the globe, collaborating with jazz luminaries and legends, and appearing in guest performances on Late Night with David Letterman and Conan O’Brien, Good Morning America, The Tonight Show and more. With 12 albums under her belt, Jane continues to tour the world nearly nonstop, including playing iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall and The Hollywood Bowl, and headlining at nearly every legendary jazz club on the planet, most notably New York stalwarts such as the Village Vanguard and Birdland.

Screening: London’s National Theatre in HD – All My Sons
The Mahaiwe will present All My Sons from London’s National Theatre in HD on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m.
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths) feature, in a five-star, triumphantly acclaimed new production of Arthur Miller’s classic play, from visionary director Ivo Van Hove (A View from the Bridge).
One family, the heart of the American dream. When wartime delivers profits for Joe, it comes at a price when his partner is charged with criminal manufacturing deals, and his eldest son goes missing in action. Will peacetime bring peace of mind, or will he be confronted by the consequences of his actions?

Screening: Being There (1979)
The Mahaiwe will present Being There (1979) on the big screen on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
Being There is a comedic political satire directed by Hal Ashby, starring Peter Sellers, Shirley MacLaine, and Melvyn Douglas. Sellers is Chance the gardener, a.k.a. Chauncey Gardiner, a misnomer that takes him from servants’ quarters to the White House. The film earned Sellers an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Tickets are $8 or $5 for ages 12 and under.
Mainstage: Adam Gopnik’s New York
Adam Gopnik, noted New Yorker writer and best-selling author, brings his new one-man show, Adam Gopnik’s New York, to the Mahaiwe’s mainstage on Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m.
Produced by Steve Martin and James L Nederlander, Adam Gopnik’s New York delivers mischief, meanings, and tales that shimmer with insight and charm, in an intimate and luxurious evening of entertainment.
“The show includes everything from the making of Central Park, which is a microcosm of everything we love about New York City, to the story of my own psychoanalysis, the most unsuccessful in the history of therapy,” says Gopnik.
Critic Robert Siegel shared praise in The New York Times: “[Adam Gopnik] gave a performance of his one man show about life in New York with great emphasis on his misadventures in psychoanalysis, which was both hilarious and very wise.”
A staff writer at The New Yorker, Gopnik has been contributing to that magazine since 1986. During his tenure, he has written fiction, humor, criticism, book reviews, personal essays, profiles, and reported pieces from abroad. He was the magazine’s art critic from 1987 to 1995 and the Paris correspondent from 1995 to 2000. From 2000 to 2005, he wrote a journal about New York life.

About the Indigo Room
The Indigo Room is a flexible performance venue in the former Great Barrington firehouse building at 20 Castle Street, next door to the historic Mahaiwe theater. Audience capacity ranges between 75 and 150 based on the floor plan for a given performance. Concessions include beer, wine, soft drinks, hot beverages, and snacks.
