Great Barrington, Mass.—The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center announces the addition of four films to its programming schedule this summer: What’s Love Got to Do With It on July 7; Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back on July 28; The Lion King on August 11; and Neil Young: Heart of Gold on August 18. 

The theater will screen the Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It from 1993 on Friday, July 7 at 7 p.m. The Brian Gibson-directed film stars Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne and is adapted from Turner’s own autobiography, I, Tina. Rated R. 

The theater will screen Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the beloved franchise installment from 1980, on Friday, July 28 at 7 p.m. Discover the conflict between good and evil in this electrifying sequel to Star Wars: A New Hope. After the destruction of the Death Star, Imperial forces continue to pursue the Rebels. After the Rebellion’s defeat on the ice planet Hoth, Luke journeys to the planet Dagobah to train with Jedi Master Yoda, who has lived in hiding since the fall of the Republic. In an attempt to convert Luke to the dark side, Darth Vader lures young Skywalker into a trap in the Cloud City of Bespin. Rated PG.  

The Mahaiwe will screen The Lion King from 1994 on Friday, August 11 at 7 p.m. Lion prince Simba is in line to inherit his father’s role as king of the jungle when his uncle Scar intervenes and sets in motion a tale of redemption. Featuring an ensemble voice cast of Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin and more, plus music by Elton John and Hans Zimmer, this Disney adventure takes inspiration from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and is celebrated as an animated classic. Rated G. 

The theater will screen Neil Young: Heart of Gold on Friday, August 18 at 7 p.m. Canadian-American singer-songwriter icon Neil Young performs over two nights in Nashville, Tennessee, in the summer of 2005. From director Jonathan Demme, the concert film features Young and his full band, including guest performer Emmylou Harris, performing songs then-new and hits from throughout Young’s career.
