FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Great Barrington, Mass.—The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center has added three new programs to its year-round schedule at its two venues: comedian Ariel Elias on December 12, dance troupe Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo on February 7, and radio-show-brought-to-life Selected Shorts on February 13.

Indigo Comedy Night with Ariel Elias

The Mahaiwe will continue its Indigo Comedy Night series with stand-up comic Ariel Elias on Friday, December 12 at 8 p.m., at the Indigo Room.

Ariel Elias is a comedian living in New York City. Growing up, this Kentucky Jew made everyone laugh at her bat mitzvah, and the rest is history. Today, her comedy is a fun mesh of unique, personal stories mixed with witty and wry observations.

Described as “a sly young comic from Kentucky” by The New York Times, Ariel has also been featured in Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, and on Good Morning America. She was named in Paste Magazine’s Best Comedians of 2022.

After catching Jimmy Kimmel’s attention with a viral stand-up clip that displayed her cool, calm, and hilarious composure, he invited Ariel to make her late-night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! In 2024, she followed it up with an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

With host Thomas Attila Lewis and featured support. Tickets are $25 general admission, café table-seating, first-come, first-served.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo brings its internationally beloved troupe of male dancers to the Mahaiwe on Saturday, February 7 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., to perform a brilliant combination of skillful pointe work and hilarious parodying of classical ballet favorites like Swan Lake.  Founded in New York City in 1974, the company, affectionately known as the Trocks, began by appearing in late-late shows in off-off Broadway lofts for small audiences who appreciated the iconoclastic humor of it all. In the over 50 years since then, the company has grown to achieve great appeal among more mainstream audiences who, each season, flock to theaters throughout the world to see these prima ballerinas perform. Revered by ballet aficionados as well as the uninitiated—those who don’t know a plié from a jeté—the Trocks are “a guaranteed hoot for people who know nothing of ballet and an absolute must for those who think they know the originals” (Sydney Star Observer).

Tickets are $35 to $70 with discounts for Mahaiwe Members and individuals ages 30 and under.

Selected Shorts: Lovers & Strangers – with Jane Curtin, Lauren Ambrose and More

The popular radio show and podcast Selected Shorts returns to the Mahaiwe on Friday, February 13 at 7 p.m., for an evening of romance and intrigue. Join as actors including Jane Curtin and Lauren Ambrose perform funny, mysterious, and poignant short stories about love, competing desires, and unexpected encounters. Stay tuned for more casting news.

Selected Shorts is produced by Symphony Space in New York City and broadcast on more than 150 stations around the country. The Selected Shorts podcast consistently ranks as one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes, with over 100,000 downloads every week. The series began in 1985 and enjoys sold-out performances to this day. Selected Shorts was conceived with a simple premise: take great stories by well-known and emerging writers and have them performed by terrific actors of stage and screen. Live events are often co-hosted by writers or involve a special collaboration with literary publications, podcasts, museums, and more. Each Selected Shorts is a unique reading of literature in performance.

Tickets are $35 to $45 with discounts for Mahaiwe Members and individuals ages 30 and under.
