FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Great Barrington, Mass.—The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center had added three screened events to its existing programming this winter.

The Mahaiwe will present a special screening of Casablanca (1942) for Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 14 at 7 p.m. Widely regarded as one of the best movies of all time, Casablanca is a romantic drama set during World War II. Rick (Humphrey Bogart) is an American expat and café owner caught between his love for Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) and supporting the cause of her husband Victor (Paul Henreid), a Nazi resistance leader. The film was nominated for eight Oscars, winning Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Tickets are $8 or $5 for ages 12 and under.

The theater will screen The Importance of Being Earnest from London’s National Theatre on Saturday, February 22 at 6:30 p.m. Max Webster (Donmar’s Macbeth; Life of Pi) directs a joyful and flamboyant reimagining of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated comedy. Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom; Doctor Who) is joined by Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who; Sex Education) and Hugh Skinner (W1A; Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) in this hilarious story of identity, impersonation and romance. Tickets are $17 or $10 for ages 21 and under.

The Mahaiwe will screen Dr. Strangelove from London’s National Theatre in HD on Saturday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m. Seven-time BAFTA Award-winner Steve Coogan plays four roles in the world-premiere stage adaptation of Stanley Kubrick’s comedy masterpiece film, Dr. Strangelove. This explosively funny satire, about a rogue U.S. General who triggers a nuclear attack, is led by a world-renowned creative team, including Emmy Award-winner Armando Iannucci and Olivier Award-winner Sean Foley.
