Juanito Pascual Trio
The Mahaiwe will present the Juanito Pascual Trio at the Indigo Room on Saturday, April 11 at 8 p.m.
Jonathan “Juanito” Pascual is an internationally recognized guitarist and “flamenco phenom” (The Boston Globe). His sound is a truly organic blend of masterful traditional and contemporary flamenco with influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead to Miles Davis and J.S. Bach. Juanito brings together global audiences through his mesmerizing virtuosity, original composition style, dedication to music as a global communicator, and passion for collaboration. Energized by the desire to share the beauty and soul-stirring power of flamenco, with its ancient roots, yet vibrant and evolving tradition, Juanito’s performances, recordings, and workshops reverberate with infectious charisma. Recent highlights include a performance at TEDx Nashville, an international tour and appearance in a documentary film with Flamenco icon Jorge Pardo, and performances for film scores in his new home of Los Angeles. Receiving praise for the Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio album (2014), All About Jazz noted “Pascual manages to uphold and extend the traditions of flamenco music, creating something distinctive in the process,” a sentiment cherished by Pascual, a dedicated 21st-century musician.
Pascual’s trio will feature bassist Brad Barrett and Jose Moreno on percussion and vocals.
Tickets are $45 general admission, café table seating.
Adam Gopnik’s New York
Adam Gopnik, noted New Yorker writer and best-selling author, brings his new one-man show, Adam Gopnik’s New York, to the Mahaiwe’s mainstage on Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m.
Produced by Steve Martin and James L Nederlander, Adam Gopnik’s New York delivers mischief, meanings, and tales that shimmer with insight and charm, in an intimate and luxurious evening of entertainment.
“The show includes everything from the making of Central Park, which is a microcosm of everything we love about New York City, to the story of my own psychoanalysis, the most unsuccessful in the history of therapy,” says Gopnik.
Critic Robert Siegel shared praise in The New York Times: “[Adam Gopnik] gave a performance of his one man show about life in New York with great emphasis on his misadventures in psychoanalysis, which was both hilarious and very wise.”
A staff writer at The New Yorker, Gopnik has been contributing to that magazine since 1986. During his tenure, he has written fiction, humor, criticism, book reviews, personal essays, profiles, and reported pieces from abroad. He was the magazine’s art critic from 1987 to 1995 and the Paris correspondent from 1995 to 2000. From 2000 to 2005, he wrote a journal about New York life.
Tickets are $40 with discounts for Mahaiwe Members and individuals ages 30 and under.
Indigo Comedy Night with Christian Finnegan
The Mahaiwe will present stand-up comic Christian Finnegan at the Indigo Room on Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m., as part of the new venue’s ongoing comedy series.
Christian Finnegan is perhaps best known as one of the original panelists on VH1’s Best Week Ever and as Chad, the only white roommate in Chappelle’s Show’s infamous “Mad Real World” sketch. He played Martin on the popular syndicated sitcom Are We There Yet? and politics junkies will recognize Christian from his many appearances on Countdown with Keith Olbermann.
Most recently, Christian was the creator and co-host of A&E’s Black & White, which examined current events and social trends through the lens of Race. He can also be heard filling in as a regular guest host on Standup with Pete Dominick on SiriusXM Insight.
Over the years, Christian has been a fixture on Comedy Central, having starred in his own one hour stand up special Au Contraire, as well as Comedy Central Presents, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and countless network interstitials. He’s also appeared on Conan, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Good Morning America and The Today Show.
Indigo Comedy Night shows are hosted by Thomas Attila Lewis and feature supporting comedians before the headliner. This performance is for ages 18 and up.
Indigo Comedy Night shows are sponsored by Fairfield Inn by Mariott.
Tickets are $30 general admission, café table seating.
BEATrio: Béla Fleck, Edmar Castañeda & Antonio Sánchez
The Mahaiwe will present a BEATrio – a new collaboration between musicians Béla Fleck, Edmar Castañeda, and Antonio Sánchez, on Saturday, June 27 at 8 p.m.
To be sure, the new all-star trio of banjoist Fleck, harpist Castañeda and drummer Sánchez features instrumentation that might safely be called uncommon. Unless, of course, you’re already familiar with 19-time Grammy-winner Fleck – the genre-blurring virtuoso who has done more to expand the possibilities of the banjo than any other player in the instrument’s history. From his bluegrass beginnings through his otherworldly Flecktones, his duo with Chick Corea and his reimagining of Rhapsody in Blue, Fleck’s work never fails to surprise. What doesn’t surprise is the impeccable caliber of his collaborators – and this new trio includes two of the most gifted musicians of their generation.
The harpist, Castañeda, hails from Bogotá, Colombia, and has led his own bands in addition to sharing projects with such masters as Hiromi, Paquito D’Rivera and Grégoire Maret. Five-time Grammy-winner Sánchez grew up in Mexico City and built a reputation as one of the great jazz drummers through his work with guitarist Pat Metheny.
The BEATrio album is out now. Playing original repertoire, much of it collaboratively written, this trio embarks nightly on fearless explorations that audiences will find irresistible — rich with strong melodies, gorgeous harmony and grooves that twist and turn while feeling fantastic.
Tickets are $49 to $89 with discounts for Mahaiwe Members and individuals ages 30 and under.
Indigo Comedy Night – Cathy Ladman: I Have No One to Blame But Myself
The Mahaiwe will present two performances from comedian Cathy Ladman at the Indigo Room on Saturday, July 11 at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Ladman’s show – I Have No One to Blame But Myself – will represent a special installment of the organization’s Indigo Comedy Night series.
Cathy Ladman’s relatable stand-up presents herself as the self-probing, anxiety-venting person that she is. She has appeared on The Tonight Show ten times and had her own Dry Bar special in 2024. She’s been on The Late Late Show five times, has had her own HBO One Night Stand comedy special, and was awarded the American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand Up Comic. Her TV and film credits include: recurring roles on, I’m Dying Up Here and Pretty Little Liars, Modern Family, Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder, NCIS: LA, Mad Men, Brothers and Sisters, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Caroline in the City (recurring), Everybody Loves Raymond, Politically Incorrect, Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist, Charlie Wilson’s War, The Aristocrats, White Oleander, What Planet Are You From?, My Fellow Americans, and Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead. Her solo show, Does This Show Make Me Look Fat? opened this past year.
This performance is for ages 18 and up.
Indigo Comedy Night shows are sponsored by Fairfield Inn by Mariott.
